FGCU Athletics adds Game Day Happy Hour for 2026-27 season

The new promotion will offer $5 beers during the hour before ticketed Eagles home events as FGCU looks to build the game-day experience across its sports programs.

Florida Gulf Coast University is adding something new to the pregame routine for Eagles fans this year.

FGCU Athletics will introduce a Game Day Happy Hour at all ticketed home events during the 2026-27 season, offering $5 Budweiser, Bud Light and Rolling Rock from the time gates open until the start of the game.

The promotion will be available at ticketed events for men's and women's basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, and men's and women's soccer.

The first Game Day Happy Hour is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 12, when FGCU women's soccer hosts Houston in its season opener at Pickering Field at the FGCU Soccer Complex. Gates open at 6 p.m., with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

FGCU students will continue to have access to $3 student pricing at games until beer sales close, according to the athletics department.

The happy hour is one of several game-day promotions FGCU Athletics has planned across its sports for the coming year as the department works to strengthen the atmosphere surrounding Eagles home games.

For fans, that effort extends the experience beyond the competition itself. An hour before the game creates another opportunity for alumni, students and other Southwest Florida fans to arrive early, gather and make an FGCU sporting event part of an evening out.

That's a meaningful part of building a local sports culture. Wins and losses will always drive what happens on the field or court, but traditions, atmosphere and shared experiences help turn games into places where a community gathers.

Alcohol sales aren't new at FGCU sporting events. The athletics department began selling beer and wine at most home venues in September 2021, saying at the time that the change was intended to enhance the game-day experience while maintaining safeguards for fans. FGCU has continued to incorporate beer specials into its promotions in the years since, including $3 student pricing during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. The department has not publicly disclosed sales or revenue figures that would show how the program has performed financially, but the new Game Day Happy Hour represents another expansion of the concept.

The Eagles' Aug. 12 soccer opener will provide the first look at what that experience feels like in 2026-27.
